Union Assurance top Men’s ‘A’ Division
Newcomers Union Bank remained unbeaten as they advanced to the Final, beating MAS Holdings ‘Blacks’, 70-54, after leading 27-23 at halftime, in the 26th MSBA League Basketball Tournament 2016, Men’s ‘D’ Division Semi-Final (SF) at the Henry Pedris Courts last week. In the other SF, at the same venue, Seylan Bank was stretched by Softlogic Group, before winning 72-67 in extra time, as the scores were deadlocked 64-64 at full-time. Seylan Bank led 31-29 at halftime. Thus Union Bank will meet Seylan Bank in the Mens ‘D’ Division Final In the Men’s ‘E’ Division unbeaten Amana Bank will take on WNS Global in the Final.
In the 1st SF Amana Bank upped gears in the 2nd half for a runaway 82-52 win over Millennium IT (MIT). MIT led 25-24 at halftime.
In the 2nd SF, WNS Global were made to fight all the way to beat Mobitel, 48-45. Mobitel led 26-22 at halftime. When Amana Bank met WNS Global in the League stage, the Bankers won comfortably, 53-40. In the Men’s ‘A’ Division, Union Assurance topped the league table with DFCC 2nd. Both Teams qualified for the SFs. Seylan Bank qualified for the SFs defeating Nations Trust Bank (NTB) 44-32. NDB Bank beat Mobitel 75-45 to reserve their spot in the Women’s ‘B’ Division. NDB Bank beat LB Finance (LBF) 76-56 to qualify for the Men’s ‘C’ Division final.
