Jayewardenepura Uni to launch degree in tourism and hospitality
View(s):The University of Sri Jayewardenepura has proposed to start a Bs.c. Marketing Management (Tourism & Hospitality – Sp.) programme under its Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce. For this purpose an industry advisory panel has been appointed to review the curriculum of the proposed degree programme. The latest industry advisory panel discussion was held on September 30 at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura to further review the proposed curriculum with industry expert opinions, the university said in a media statement. The panel consists of former Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau Dr. Rohantha Athukorala, Hiran Cooray – Chairman of Jetwing Hotels, Dileepa Mudadeniya – Vice President of John Keels Group -, Udara Guruge – Asst. Director of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Isanka P. Gamage – Director – TIIKM (Pvt.) Ltd and Champika Anuradha from the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau.
From the university Dr. U. Anura Kumara – Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, Dr. Lalith Chandralal – Head of the Department of Marketing Management and academic members of department of marketing management participated in the panel discussions. Speaking to the media, Dr. Chandralal said; “Being the best management faculty in Sri Lanka, Jayewardenepura University always produces industry-driven degree programmes. We are planning to sign MOUs with all the major hotel chains, travel agents and other tourism related organisations in order to get internships, guest lecturers and training facilities which will give better exposures and opportunities for our future undergraduates”.
