Second tour of Janakaraliya with Tamil Chalk Circle

Janakaralaiya drama and Theatre institute has scheduled to have the second series of performances of its latest production “Wenkatti Wattam”, the tamil version of world renowned playwright Bertolt Brecht’s ‘Caucasian Chalk Circle’ in Nuwara Eliya, Batticaloa, Chenkalladi, Vavuniya and Kilinochchi.
Translated by Kulenthai M. Shammugalingam, the play is directed by veteran dramatist Janakaraliya founder Parakrama Niriella and K.Rathidaran. This drama was produced under a project of the International Fund for Promotion of Cultures of UNESCO.
“Wenkatti Wattam” was created with Janakaraliya artistes together with a group of young theatre artistes trained from Jaffna. The premier of the drama was held at the Weerasingham Hall in Jaffna on July 22 and followed with a series of successful performances in Colombo, Matara and Janakaraliya Drama Festival held in Jaffna.
As the next step, ‘Wenkatti Wattam’ is scheduled to be staged at the Nuwara Eliya Town Hall (Cinesita) on October 16 at 2.00 pm, at 5.30 pm in Arasadi Deivanayagama Hall in Batticloa on October18, at 6.00 pm on October 19 in the Eastern University in Chenkallady, at 1.00 pm on October 20 at the Rambaikulaum Girls College in Vavuniya and on Friday October 21 at 6.30 pm at the Co-operative Hall in Kilinochchi at 6.30 pm.

Sivanesan, Arosha Tharangani Ranaweera, V.Robinsan, S.Thevaraj, R.Tharsika, S.Umakulan, S.Vithusan, W.
