The body of Adhil Bakeer Markar, a young attorney-at-law, who passed away in London last week, was flown home from here in London on Saturday.
The 26-year Adhil, a son of former Media Minister Imthiaz Bakeer Markar, had passed away in his room at the London School of Economics (LSE) where he was studying for his Masters after arriving in London three weeks ago, according to informed sources.
Mr. Bakeer Markar came to London as a Chevening scholar and was pursuing a Masters degree in Comparative Politics at the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), sources told the Sunday Times.
His body was discovered when friends found that there was no response from him to their telephone calls. This lack of response prompted some friends to request University Hall officials to check on him, where they found him lying rest on his bed, an informed source said.
Adhil's brother flew from Qatar to London to coordinate arrangements.
The coroner's final report is yet to be submitted yet.
The Sri Lanka High Commission in the UK is said to have assisted extensively in the arrangements to have the body flown back to Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile in Colombo two siblings of Adhil Bakeer Markar explained how their brother sent his last voice record via a social media app last Tuesday evening.
Azam Bakeer Marker said that his daughter asked, “how are you adhil Saacha? (Adhil uncle)” around 6.30 pm (Sri Lankan time). They spoke to him via his third brother Fadhil Bakeer Markar’s phone.
The late brother had left his last reply saying "Alhamdulillah all good Safiya, I am having a slight fever, insha Allah I'll be okay" and asking “hope you are having fun with the baby?"
The third elder brother Fadhil Bakeer Markar said that their brother had left Sri Lanka last month to study for his Masters in Comparative Politics.
He said that even friends at the hostel had not seen him at the lectures or had any reply from him.
The remains were expected to be flown to Sri Lanka on Sundayafternoon and funeral is to be held at 5.00 p.m. at the Jawatta Muslim cemetery.
