Elizabeth Moir art exhibition : Colouring spaces
View(s):The annual Elizabeth Moir Senior School art exhibition was held at Park Street Mews recently. Over 250 students participated aging from 11 to 18 years, in two projects set by their Art teacher Aruni Wijeguwardene. Students were invited to reinterpret work by old masters such as Picasso and Van Gough. Also producing original pieces of art in mediums such as acrylic, clay, photography and even installation. Secondly each of the four school houses were set a task of representing a theme devised by students. This includes four spaces of the warehouse dedicated to the four themes discrimination, Life in my Shoes, Rebel and Saving Nature. Aruni said, “The students had fun with recreating the old master work, as you can see Mona Lisa is represented in various ways including using Snap Chat filters.” Some highly figurative work showcased a lot of young talent not afraid to tackle current themes, like the refugee crisis in Europe and homosexuality. “If this was just an art exhibitions we would not see so much competitiveness, because there is an inter-house competition, the students really thrive to better each other,” said founder of the school, Elizabeth Moir.
