Police investigations into the attack on a nightclub in Colombo two weeks ago, where a security guard was injured and property was damaged by an unidentified group, has ended without a trace of the persons responsible for the attack.

OIC Maradana Police- Chief Inspector Sarath Perera told the Sunday Times that there was no formal complaint about the incident, and the President’s office had informed they were conducting their own investigations to ascertain whether any persons connected with the President’s House or its security were involved in the incident. Therefore, the police investigations have ended.

“As there was an assault and one person hospitalised, we initiated investigations. The injured person said he could not identify the attackers. The owner of the club too said the persons involved in the attack could not be identified and that, he would bear the expenses of the damages,” the OIC said.

However, a spokesman for the Presidential Secretariat said they had not conducted an investigation into the incident, while the President’s order was for the Police to carry out an impartial investigation.

Police spokesman, DIG Ajith Rohana declined to comment on the status of the investigations.
