Prof. Sarath Kotagama will deliver this month’s National Trust lecture on ‘Insight to Endemic Birds’ on Thursday, October 27 at the HNB Auditorium, 22nd Floor, HNB Towers, 479 T.B. Jayah Mawatha, Colombo 10 at 6.30p.m.

Species identification has changed over time and the number of endemic species for Sri Lanka has also gone through changes. The status of endemics has become thus a very important aspect in the conservation of birds. New biological study approaches are further compounding the issues of endemicity in terms of evolution and relationships.

Emeritus Professor Sarath Wimalabandara Kotagama, D.Sc ( Honoris causa), is the first professional ornithologist of Sri Lanka and author of numerous Sri Lanka bird books. Presently he is a Global Council Member of Bird Life International and Chairman Asia Council of Bird Life, and advisor to the Minister for Sustainable Development and Wildlife.
