Al Manar Int’l beat Atamie Int’l with a ball to spare
View(s):Al Manar International School (AMIS) beat bad light to score a thrilling 5-wicket victory, with a ball to spare, in their annual clash with Atamie International School (AIS) at the Moors Grounds on Thursday.
The main match between the Under (U)-16 sides was reduced to 18 overs, due to the delay in starting the U-14 match played first.
Batting first, AIS scored 117 for 8 wickets, in their allotted 18 overs. Christopher Shehan top scored with an unbeaten 30, while Tharindu Perera (21), Ravindu Wickremasinghe (14) and Sachin Suresh (13) chipped in. Mohomed Ramlan was the most successful bowler for AMIS with 3 for 19.
AMIS chasing a victory target of 118, though helped by erratic bowling by the AIS bowlers who sent over 20 wides, seem to be losing their way when wickets started falling at regular intervals. Kumaravel Rishikanth (29) who kept his end going, was helped by Raizul Haq (15), while in the latter stages, with the light fading, stylish left-hander Mohomad Nishad with an unbeaten 12, pulled them out of trouble, to give AMIS a well deserved victory.
An ugly incident took place soon after the match, when some AIS parents rushed to the score-box and threatened the lone scorer and grabbed the score sheet, accusing him of not maintaining the scores correctly. They even threatened our photographer from publishing the pictures he took. Interestingly, none of the umpires complained about the scorer or the scoreboard operation.
In the U-14 match, AMIS set the stage for their seniors by defeating AIS by 2 wickets, with 4.1 overs to spare.
