The Sunday Times Business Club (STBC) panel discussion on “Trends in Education: Gearing to a technology-driven marketplace” on Wednesday at the Kingsbury Colombo raised many interesting issues that all stakeholders are faced with.

The panellists were Sunil Hettiarachchi, Secretary – Ministry of Education and Dr. Jayantha Balasooriya also from the Ministry; Murtaza Esufally, Director – Hemas and Dr. Jithangi Wanigasinghe, Consultant Paediatric Neurologist representing the College of Paediatricians. The issues were wide ranging with the Government and the bureaucracy blamed for slow reforms while parents in turn were blamed for pushing their children to perform without adequate ‘play’, recreation or rest.

A detailed report will appear next week.
