Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars are facing a lawsuit over their hit song ‘Uptown Funk’. The action is being brought by a little known 80’s group called Collage from Minneapolis in the US. The group’s only surviving member Larry White has claimed ‘Uptown Funk’ is similar to their song ‘Young Girls’ from 1983. ‘Uptown Funk’ was a huge hit for Mark Ronson as it was the lead single from his fourth album ‘Uptown Special’ in 2014. It topped the charts in eight countries and by June 2015 sold over 6.1 million copies in the US alone. Bruno Mars was the face of the song as he was the featured vocalist. The electro/funk track also had Jeff Basker as writer and as part of the production team. The Gap Band’s ‘Oops! Upside Down’ a funk hit of 1979 is another song that influenced ‘Uptown Funk’ and later the Wilson brothers who make up the Gap Band were added on to the song writing credits. Earlier the all girl group Sequence claimed their song ‘Funk Up Girls’ from 1979 was also similar, but they did not pursue legal action.
