Rain ruined second day’s proceedings in all the Under-19 inter-school cricket encounters that were played around the island. Two matches — one at Bambalapitiya and other at Kandana got off to late starts while no play was possible in the matches due to be played at Moratuwa and Wattala.
However Dharmapala managed to record a first inning over fancied St. Peter’s at Bambalapitiya and only 43 overs of play being possible. Dharmapala resuming from their overnight score of 116 for 7 were bowled out for 124.
But the Palians struck back through Mahima Weerakoon, Dilshan Silva and Chamindu Samarasinghe who shared the wickets to bundle St. Peter’s for a low score of 83.
The match between De Mazenod and St. Joseph’s too had a late start at 2.00pm. From the 31 overs of play saw St. Joseph’s from 5 for 1 ending on 83 for 7 in reply to the Mazenodians score of 155 when play was stopped.
The matches between Prince of Wales and St. Benedict’s at Moratuwa and St. Anthony’s Wattala versus Trinity was called due to the wet outfield and in the match between St. Servatius Matara and Anuradhapura Central which began yesterday saw only 42 overs of play being possible with St. Servatius batting first making 154 and Anuradhapura Central facing six overs ending day one on 20 for 0.
