Collections inspired by travel
Source and Supply is a collection of fabrics, objects and art illustrations inspired by the travels of fashion designer Martina HC. A recent product launch was held at the Black Café.
Martina, who is originally from the UK has worked for two years in Colombo. Having amassed a wealth of imagery during her travels through Sri Lanka, India and Vietnam, her visual journal of Colombo depicts buildings and the inhabitants in Pettah such as the vivid Cargill’s Building, fruit sellers as well as foliage from native tropical trees. The detailed imagery portrays Colombo from the perspective of an enthusiastic explorer.
On sale are a range of prints in various sizes, post cards and travel bags. Prints depict the colonial area buildings that dot the Fort and Pettah areas. They are also combined with quirky travel quotes. Her bags come in sets of three. Using traditional block printing learnt from Jaipur and manufactured in Sri Lanka using the foliage illustrations. These bags are designed to house toiletry accessories and other travel products. Theycan be stylishly unravelled to display then quickly stored for the fashion conscious nomad.
“I created the Colombo range of prints as it’s under represented and doesn’t have enough attention. I am not formally trained in graphics, its something I do,” Martina said.
At the moment the range is being stocked at the Black Café.
