The Mercedez Benz Fashion Runways of the Sri Lanka Design Festival saw three days of excitement as many interesting and unconventional designs took the runway at the SLECC. The shows aimed to highlight Sri Lanka as a travel fashion destination – where tourists can enjoy a tropical holiday and also shop for high-end clothes at the same time.

On Day One there were quite a few unusual designs which took the catwalk. Pras and Danties had a unique collection of designs which incorporated Sinhala letters into the collection giving the designs an oriental look. Wedding Brides displayed classic white wedding dresses with a modern twist. Hafsa Ameer’s collection of denim designs were also quite intriguing. Overall, Day One comprised Oriental, Sri Lankan designs which could easily be worn in Sri Lankan weather.

Day Two saw the industry showcase many bold looks. Rakshaa presented a colourful collection of swimwear while Star Garments, Lanka Leather and Union Apparel also presented a stylish vibe. Israeli designer Danit Peleg revealed her latest collection of 3D printed designs.

For Day Three’s Emerging Designers’ show see the Sunday Times Magazine.

Some of the designs can be purchased online and the shows can be watched on https://www.mbsrilankafashionrunways.com/pages/digital.
