BRC successfully defend title after two decades
Host Burgher Recreation Club popularly known as BRC emerged champions of their own BRC Six a Side Cricket tournament which was revived after two decades when they defeated neighbouring club Colts by 11 runs in the final played at the BRC ground.
It was celebration for BRC who were the champions when the tournament was last played two decades ago in 1996 when they successfully defended the title after a lapse of 20 years in a closely contested final.
BRC taking first lease of the wicket was in a spot of bother due to the tight bowling by Colts bowlers. But useful contributions coming from Andy Solomons who made an unbeaten 28 and Ramesh Buddika helped them end with a modest score of 66 for 2 in the five overs.
Colts in their run chase too underwent some anxious moments as they were made to fight hard for their runs. In the last over they were left with a daunting task of making 25 runs but was restricted to a score of 55.
Earlier in the two semi-finals that were played saw Colts recording a four runs win over Moors SC and BRC overcoming fancied SSC by 26 runs. Andy Solomons of BRC who made an unbeaten 28 was adjudged the man-of-the-final.

The third place play off between Moors SC and SSC saw the former coming out victorious by five runs with Lassana Perera of Moors SC taking the man of the match aware,
Thilanga Sumathipala, Deputy Speaker and President of Sri Lanka Cricket was the chief guest who gave away the awards. The champion team led by Indika de Saram comprised T.M. Sampath, Ramesh Buddika, Andy Solomons, Hashen Ramanayake, Vikum Sanjaya, Lasith Lakshan and Damith Rangana.
The champion team apart from the trophy was awarded a cash award of Rs. One million and the runner up received a cash award of Rs. 250,000 while man of the final Andy Solomons of BRC received a cash award of Rs. 100,000.
