Horton Plains
Horton Plains is located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. This region was designated a National Park in 1988. Three major Sri Lankan rivers start from the Horton Plains. They are the Mahaweli, Kelani and Walawe.
The original name of the Horton Plains was Maha Eliya Thenna (Great Open Plain). But in the British period, the plains were renamed after
Sir. Robert Wilmot Horton, the British Governor of Ceylon from 1831 to 1837. The famous Baker’s Falls in Horton Plains which is 66feet high, were named after Sir Samuel Baker, who was a famous explorer.
Horton Plains is full of fern and flora. There are 20 types of flowers found among a Dwarf Bamboo found only in Horton Plains. The famous ‘World’s End’ is also found here.
People who are keen on exploring visit the Horton Plains to see the beautiful valleys and mountains.
I watched Knowledge TV and learnt about Horton Plains.

My favourite storybook
My favourite storybook is the Famous Five. The author is Enid Blyton. The stories in Famous Five are very interesting. The book I read most recently was ‘Five go off to camp’. The characters are Anne, George, Dick, Julian and Timmy the dog. The book ‘Five go off to camp’ is about ghost trains that disappear in the middle of the night and how the Famous Five solve the mystery.
During my school holidays I like to read Famous Five books and I enjoy reading them.

My best friend
Among many friends, I have a
best friend. She is very close to me.
In everything I do she is with me.
Our values are the same. I protect her and she protects me. We never get angry with each other. We help each other like that. She is Nethmi.
Nethmi is the youngest child in her family. She is eleven years old. She is studying in my school. She is a Japanese citizen. She is studying well. She is very good in sports. Her family members are also very kind people.
She never lies to me. She wants to do everything that she is told. She loves Japanese food. She loves to drink milkshakes. Her favourite colour is purple.
We love each other very much.
I think she is a real friend because real friends come for a reason.
Others just come for a season.

Let’s protect the environment
We are surrounded by the environment. Maybe it is the ocean, a range of mountains, a valley of flowers or a forest. All these surroundings belong to the wide expanse called the environment, from the deep blue sky to the depths of the earth.
Humans are not the only species who live in this environment. There are millions of various animals living all over our earth. These animals have every right to live in this environment, as much as us. The ozone layer is situated over our earth, acting as a protective layer.

It bounces off harmful rays of the sun.
It protects all humans and animals but is sadly thinner in certain places and the
is the fault of humans.

People cut down trees and whole forests. By doing this the water cycle gets interrupted and the climate changes. The heat becomes stifling and global warming increases. Humans and animals are affected and the whole fault is of the people.
The environment is slowly being destroyed by people who don’t care about the future. The past generation hands us the responsibilities of the environment and we have to keep it safe to hand it over to the future generation. There are a lot of organizations and companies working for the welfare of our environment, which is very good. There are organizations and societies in school such as environmental societies and wildlife conservation projects.
The environment which is rapidly being destroyed is now going against humans. Tsunamis, floods, droughts, landslides are warnings to us from Mother Nature that we are not taking enough care of her. So as children of this generation, we have to take care and protect our beautiful environment.

How to keep our teeth clean and bright
As Sri Lankans we should live fresh. Nature has presented us beautiful teeth to present a smile for others. If we present a smile to others, we should keep our teeth clean and bright. If we follow good health habits, we can keep our teeth clean and bright. We have learnt many health habits in our short time. But now we do not observe them.

The first is, we should brush our teeth twice; in the morning and night. There is a correct method for brushing teeth. Also we should choose a suitable toothbrush and a toothpaste. It helps us not only to keep our teeth clean and bright but also for good health.

Many of the society do not meet their dentist once a month as they are busy. But we should meet our dentist once a month because they give us advice to keep our teeth clean. Also we should brush our teeth after we eat sweets.
Bright teeth bring beauty to our lives. If our breath smells bad we will be refused by others. But if we follow good health habits, we can keep our teeth clean and bright.

Advantages of the computer
The computer is a machine. The father of the computer is Mr. Charles Babbage. The computer is the symbol of modern technology. There are many parts in the computer, such as the Central Processing Unit, monitor, keyboard, mouse,
hard disk and so on.

We use the computer for different purposes. We can use the Internet from the computer.
And also the computer helps us to do our studies. Further, the computer is very essential for our day to day work. Therefore I think the computer gives us many advantages.

I am a bird
I am a beautiful parrot.
My owner is a girl. She named me as Peththappu. She kept me in a golden cage. I have two beautiful green coloured wings. My owner gives me grains and fruits to eat. I can see so many things with my eyes. I eat with my beak. I can see parrots, pigeons, sparrows, mynahs etc. But I am not happy because my owner keeps me in a cage. I would also like to fly in the sky. If I get free I can play with my brothers and sisters and fly so far and go so fast. I have a beautiful necklace in my neck.
