18 to hang for killing of Noori Estate Superintendent

Eighteen accused, including the former Chairman of the Deraniyagala Pradeshiya Sabha, were sentenced to death on Friday (25) by Avissawella High Court Judge Devika Abeyratne, for the 2013 murder of Nihal Perera, Superintendent of Noori Estate.
A total of 21 accused had been on trial for attacking and causing injuries to the late Superintendent’s security guards and also for murdering Mr Perera. Three of them were acquitted on Friday.
Among those sentenced to death was the former Chairman of the Deraniyagala PS, Anil Champika Wijesinha alias ‘Atha Kota.’ The 17 other accused sentenced to death are Amila Vasantha Wijesinha, T.K. Weerab, J. Wijekumara, Ramesh Sashikumar, Perumal Ravikumar, Perumal Udaya Kumar, Rajendran Ravikumar, Ramesh Sivakumar, Chitravel Nishantha Kumar, Krishnavel Rajendran, H.G. Asan Rangana Wijesinha, S. Palayandi, Arumuges Arjun, Panadura Gamaralage Indika Wijesiri, Arunachalam Muniyandi, Indunil Lakshitha and Dinesh Chathuranga.
The Superintendent of Noori Estate, Nihal Perera, was hacked to death in Deraniyagala on the morning of July 5, 2013.
