Accolades for Vijaya Matale

Vijaya College Matale became the only school from Matale district to win a Bronze medal and ten (10) merit certificate awards at the John Tarbat Junior Athletic Meet held in Embilipitiya recently.
Competing in three age groups U/12, 13 and 14, athletes of Vijaya (five boys and two girls) were able to achieve this feat by reaching the standard of merit certificate awards.
The only medalist of the team Sethmini Rasanjali Hewamulla won a Bronze medal for her performance in the U/14 girls 100m event. She finished 3rd with a timing of 13.3 seconds. She had won both 80m and 100m events in the U/12 age category with best timing of 11.8 sec. and 13.8 sec. respectively in the year 2014 as well. The team was coached by Upul Karunaratne under the guidance of Vijaya principal Ranjith Siriwardana.
