Lanka Mahila Samiti annual handicraft sale
View(s):The Lanka Mahila Samiti’s annual sale of handicrafts will be held on Tuesday, November 29 at the Lionel Wendt Gallery, from 9 a.m to 5 p.m.
A variety of attractive handicrafts made by the Mahila Samiti’s rural members will be on sale. Look out for beautiful baskets made out of watakeiyya, mats woven with intricate traditional designs (rata), purses, handbags, table mats and wall hangings made out of indikola palm and hemp (hana) . There will also be crochet items, embroidered frocks and baby clothes, table runners and cushion covers as well as batiks and festive décor.
A new item this year will be hand-embroidered spectacle cases, mobile phone covers and cloth bags, all ideal as Christmas gifts.
