A musical gift for the season of peace and joy
Veteran Visharadha Fr. Edmund Tillekaratne has released his latest compact disc, ‘Bethleheme Donkaraya’ a musical gift for the season of Christmas.
The CD includes 12 Christmas songs sung by a group of popular singers and youngsters. Among the popular singers who rendered their voices are Chandana Liyanarachchi, Nirosha Virajini, Nalin Perera, Nelu Adhikari and Prasanna Fernando. Three young artistes representing the next generation of singers have contributed with their voices. They include Nadimal Perera son of Amal Perera and two new comers, Susith Weerakon and Ann Evadini Silva. The duo were the winners of Singing competition conducted by Archdiocesan Social Communication and Culture Centre in celebrating the year of mercy.
The tuneful melodies of the carols in the CD are light and have the touch of popular Sri Lankan music.
“Christmas is a time of peace and happiness. So I used light and soothing music to create felling of the season,” said Fr. Edmund, one of the few qualified musicians in Sri Lankan church.
“Even the lyrics penned are simple but they carry deeper messages,” he added.
The songs are penned by Rev. Dr. Camillus Fernando-editor of Sinhala Catholic paper, Rev. Dr. Daya Andrew Shelton, Rev. Dr. Anthony Fernandopulle and Fr. Edmund himself.
All the musical compositions are done by Fr. Edmund and the CD is presented by Archdiocesan Social Communication and Cultural Centre.
