Launch of Some Fleeting Thoughts

The Guest of Honour was Professor Ariyadasa de Silva, Lecturer and former Dean of the Department of Education, University of Colombo. Vijitha Fernando and Malinda Seneviratne, two award-winning writers addressed the audience.

The book is a collection of 12 short stories and 32 poems . The author had earlier published a collection of short stories titled “Swimming Against The Tide.” Many of her short stories and poems have appeared in the print media.

Many of the stories in this collection draw attention to the strengths as well as the weaknesses in both women and men. Some, the author says have an element of autobiography in them. The reader will find that a few short stories and poems are based on the natural landscape and lifestyles of the people living in the northern part of Nigeria. She has also presented some short stories in the style of “ “flash fiction” and a few poems in the styles of “Haiku” and “Lantern.”

Ms. Nanayakkara is a teacher by profession. She had her post-graduate education at the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya and the University of Colombo. She has worked in educational institutions in Sri Lanka, Nigeria and Seychelles. At present, she is serving on a part-time basis at the Institute of Human Resource Advancement and the American College of Higher Education, Dehiwala.
