Sinhala translations of matters of the heart
View(s):With the intention of giving knowledge on heart diseases and their ill-effects , Prof.Rohan Jayasinghe, head of the Cardiology Department at Gold Coast University Hospital and Bond University, Australia launched the Sinhala translations of his books on heart diseases on November 25 at the Mahaweli Centre in Colombo.
The books are titled ‘Ek hadaki Ek Jeevithayaki’ (One heart one life) translated by Prof. Piyasiri Karunathilaka and ‘Uparima Hadawath Suwaya’ (Ultimate Heart Health) translated by Dr. Sanjay Harsha Jayasinghe and Wadanambi Jayasinghe.
His first book was published 10 years ago ‘One Heart One Life’. Prof. Jayasinghe, after completing his doctoral thesis in New York wanted to pass on the knowledge he gained during the research process to the community, as it was valuable information on heart disease.
The second book ‘ Ultimate Heart Health’ was written about two years ago. With the help of some of his juniors he asked patients who had suffered a heart attack or patients treated in the hospital just as they were being discharged to write down any questions that were left unanswered. After gathering all the questions, he compiled the answers into this book.
“We as busy doctors don’t get to share a meaningful dialogue with our patients, to share with them all the vital information they should digest and abide by in their life,” said Prof. Jayasinghe adding that this was one of the main reasons for him to write his books. He also gave a brief introduction into the possible causes of heart disease and what could be done to prevent it.
