Launch of Appe Lanka website
View(s):At the launch of the Appe Lanka website, there were many people ready to support the project including Bishops College, S. Thomas’ College and Ladies’ College that joined as the school partners. A silent auction was also held to raise money for the project, with well known artists such as Channa Ekanayake donating their art for the cause.
Chief Guest, Rehabilitation, Resettlement & Hindu Religious Affairs Minister D.M. Swaminathan felt that the project impacted many lives and supported a community which needed support. “Appe Lanka will find that when they help a community like this, they will use every opportunity to improve and develop their village and better themselves,” he said.
Speaking at the launch, Shaan Corea said, “We are truly pleased to launch our official website and we look forward to commencing our fundraising drive. All the funds that we raise will help us to make a meaningful impact and run a sustainable project in a part of our country that is truly in need.”
Anton Rajini, who is from Poonekary said that the project has helped her village immensely. “Thank you so much for reaching out to a village which no-one has ever reached out to before and helping us. The nearest hospital, or even the nearest road from Ponnekary can only be reached by boat. We are so grateful for the support Ape Lanka has given us,” she said.
