Nimal Weeraratne presents credentials in Brunei
View(s):High Commissioner Nimal Weeraratne presented his Letter of Credence to Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, as High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Brunei Darussalam (resident in Singapore) in a ceremony held at Istana Narul Iman in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam on November 29.
Following the credentials ceremony, in a brief discussion with His Majesty, High Commissioner Weeraratne conveyed the warmest felicitations of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, which was warmly reciprocated. Reiterating the warm and cordial bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Brunei Darussalam, the High Commissioner also expressed the strong desire of the Government of Sri Lanka to enhance cooperation between the two countries in a range of spheres, particularly in trade, commerce, tourism and educational fields.
In his remarks, the Sultan and Yang Di Pertuan recalled his visit to Sri Lanka for the Commonwealths Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Colombo in 2013. He also reaffirmed the fullest cooperation of his government in improving relations between the two countries. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Honorary Consul for Sri Lanka in Brunei Darussalam Algewattege Chandrasena, to the Credential Ceremony.
High Commissioner Weeraratne, who is also Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner in Singapore, was a legal practitioner, held several senior executive positions in the private sector and was a senior partner at “Varners”, a firm of lawyers in Sri Lanka prior to his appointment as High Commissioner.
