Additional Solicitor General sworn in as President’s Counsel
View(s):Additional Solicitor General Niel Unamboowe, took oaths as President’s Counsel on November 29.
A past student of Ananda College, Colombo, Gamini Maha Vidyalaya Vavuniya he had his secondary education at Trinity College, Kandy.
He completed his legal education at the Sri Lanka Law College. He has a Masters Degree from the World Intellectual Property Worldwide Academy (with a cum laude in the Specialization Course) and a Masters Degree from George Washington University, Washington D.C. in Intellectual Property Law.
He has also specialised in International Commercial Law and Aviation Law from the National University of Singapore.
He has received training in Right to Information Laws, Cyber Laws & Forensics from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru.
He joined the Attorney General’s Department in June 1990 and was promoted as a Senior State Counsel in 2001.
He was appointed as Deputy Solicitor General in 2007 and as Senior Deputy Solicitor General in 2015.
He is the son of late Terrence P. Unamboowe, Judge of the High Court and Mrs. Lyle Unamboowe.
