Marini De Livera elected secretary Women Lawyers’ Association

Marini De Livera was elected Secretary of the Women Lawyers’ Association of Sri Lanka on December 3. The organisation which has a history of more than 50 years counts among its members eminent and pioneering women lawyers who are employed in a variety of fields.

Ms De Livera is currently a senior lecturer in Law at a leading Law School in Colombo, where she lectures on Constitutional Law, European Law, International Human Rights Law, International Criminal Law, Public International Law, Legal Skills, and Law and Society.

Ms. De Livera holds an LLB an Attorney-at-Law and holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Human Rights. She has also obtained her Masters in Law in Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and Human Rights Law. She is a Licentiate of Trinity College London and obtained a Gold Medal for Public Speaking from the London Academy of Dramatic Art, UK.

She has lectured on Law in the UK and the Republic of Seychelles. She has been a panelist at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, USA. More recently she was invited to speak on ‘Constitutional Reform in Sri Lanka’ at the Faculty of Law, University of Melbourne, Australia.

Ms. De Livera has also served as Member on the Prisons Reform Committee, the Child Soldiers’ Rehabilitation Committee, and currently serves as the Chair of the Committee set up to draft amendments to the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act. Additionally Ms. De Livera functions as a member of the National Committee on Women.
