Biography of politician and philanthropist L. C. De Silva launched
View(s):The biography of the late L.C. De Silva, former Member of Parliament for Balapitiya and Ambalangoda electorates from 1965 to 1977 was launched on December 4 at the Sri Lanka Foundation auditorium, in the presence of a large gathering. Southern Provincial Council Member Ven Baddegama Samitha Thera delivered the keynote address, on the book authored by Kulasena Keeriwelagama, former Director of the National Education Institute.
Nugegoda Nalandaramadhipathy VenTeeniawela Palitha Thera (Secretary, Sri Lanka Mahabodhi Sangamya; Mahabodhistanadhipathy Chennai, India, and Committee Member of the Kotte Sri Kalyani Samasri Dharma Maha Sanga Sabha, Minister for Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Gayantha Karunatileke, Rathnapura District MP, Vasudeva Nananyakkara, and Chairman of the Elections Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya addressed the gathering.
It was the view of all the speakers that present day politicians should emulate Mr. De Silva, a philanthropist, and an illustrious and a humble politician who devoted his whole life for the public good.
The speakers stressed the importance of the services he rendered to the people of the Galle District, particularly as the Manager of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda (1955-1961), Chairman of the Watugedera Town Council (1956-1965), President of the Galle District Multi-Purpose Cooperative Movement, and as a member of Parliament for Balapitiya and Ambalangoda electorates (1965-1977).
