Power World goes to India — 20 gyms in Bangalore

Soon the Power World Gym system which has become synonymous in Sri Lanka with physical fitness will become an accepted norm in our neighbouring giant India too.
Adding to the Lankan chain of 17 gyms in the city of Colombo, the Alailima dream will also be a part of the Indian fitness programme. Already there are twenty such fitness outlets established in Bangalore, India and soon there would be another twenty such facilities in New Delhi.
Speaking to the Sunday Times the founder of Power World Gyms Talavou F. Alailima said that monitoring the fast growth of Power World, India’s Talwalkers Fitness Limited came forward on a 50-50 deal inviting Power World to establish gyms in India. Initially Power World started with 20 gyms in the city of Bangalore and will be establishing 20 more gyms in New Delhi soon.
Alailima said “It will be a pride to a small country like Sri Lanka to start this sort of project in a giant country like India. The entry to the Indian fitness industry, with the launch in Bangalore, raises Power World Gym’s profile in the Indian sub-continent.”
In October 2015, Talwalkers Better Value Fitness Limited – India’s largest chain of fitness centres made a strategic investment in Power World Gyms as their maiden investment outside India. Talwalkers manages over 176 gyms across 84 cities. Speaking further Alailima said that his main aim is to take the name of Sri Lanka to the top in the world’s fitness programme. In every city in India100 selected youngsters will be undergoing training under the watchful eyes of top qualified doctors and instructors giving the trainees the correct techniques in fitness building.
“When I came to Sri Lanka I realised that the US system will have to be re-structured to suit our needs and culture. It became a fruitful endeavour as the system was recognised first by India and I hope that some more countries will come forward in recognition of the Lankan system.” Alailima said
