My first flight on a plane
It was the most memorable holiday in my whole lifetime. It was a bright, sunny day. We woke up early and our father told us the good news that we were going to Italy. So we started packing our clothes. We had our breakfast and brought our tickets and we went to the airport and waited till our plane came.
At last they announced about our flight and it came. We got in and took our seats. We put our seatbelts on. After a long journey we went to Italy and we got down. We went to see many places like the Tower of Pisa, Colosseum, churches etc. We went to a grand hotel to have our dinner and a nap.
At last it was the day to go back to our country. I was very sad, but I was glad to come back home. We packed our goods and came to the airport. The plane started to fly. At last we came back to our country. This was my first flight.

Floods
Very often we hear about floods. Rivers and canals become full when it rains and the water overflows. River banks cannot contain the water and then the water overflows as floods. I have seen a flood.
Floods sometimes cause damage to houses, property, fields and gardens. Sometimes a flood can kill people and animals. We have heard of floods which are destructive.
We have minor floods in our
country. Water flows through our gardens and houses. Sometimes it is difficult to get drinking water when there is a flood. We cannot go to work when roads are underwater.
A flood is an interesting incident for the small children.

Christmas
Christmas is a Christian festival even I love to celebrate. Jesus Christ was born on December 25.
This day is to commemorate Christ’s birth. We wish ‘Merry Christmas’ to friends and relatives. We decorate Christmas trees, prepare Christmas pudding and cake. Children love to have gifts from Santa the Father Christmas on this day.

Environmental Pollution
We live in a developed society. In the past, humans lived a simple but hard-working life. As time passed, humans decided to make the difficult days easier and less stressful. To achieve this, they began inventing new tools and machines to make work easy. Cars and aeroplanes as transportation, robots instead of humans to work in dangerous environments and electronic appliances are dominating the present society.

This may be very beneficial but is also harmful in a way. Some new machines and tools are harmful for the environment. Poisonous gases leak into the environment through factories, new pesticides and chemicals used in farming are being added to water bodies.

The smoke spewed through vehicles, pollutes the air. Most of all, people are intentionally polluting our environment. People drop polythene wrappers where they please, and make the beautiful environment unclean and dirty. For example near the Kiri Vehera temple a scene of devastation is to be viewed. There are polythene bags strewn all around the temple grounds. Animals that freely roam around eat this garbage and get terribly sick. People who picnic around the temple always leave waste. This is one among a thousand other polluted places.

Our environment is getting more polluted day by day. The ozone layer has holes in several places due to human activities. Global warming is increasing and the polar ice caps are melting. Due to this the sea level is rising. People continue to dump waste in the sea. Fish are dying, animals are becoming extinct.

One day even humans will be extinct due to the lack of care that we give to Nature. So always remember to be kind to everything that lives.

My favourite dinosaur
My favourite dinosaur is Velociraptor. This carnivore was much smaller than T-rex. However, it was no less vicious when attacking its prey. Hunting in packs, Velociraptors used razor-sharp claws on their feet to stab their prey. Thick skin was not a guarantee for survival. It had sharp teeth and claws. This dinosaur was no bigger than cats but could move much more quicly.

Happy Birthday Tessie
At 7 a.m. Tessie woke up. Her study table was filled with loads of gifts for her. But all of them were from her aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. But she was very sad as her parents hadn’t given her any gift.

She sat in one corner and wondered why her parents didn’t give her a gift. Then she began to cry quietly without anyone hearing. Suddenly in came her mum with indeed a rough face but at the same time mum handed Tessie a small umbrella. Tessie dried her tears and opened the umbrella to see the biggest surprise in the world. A toy clown popped out and the lights went out.

Tessie was afraid and went to the living room. Then suddenly the lights came and there came her family with a big ‘happy birthday’ and another load of gifts. It was a very wonderful day for her.

 Colombo National Museum

A museum is a place where we can prove ourselves or regain our knowledge about history. By looking at the fascinating things at the museum, we can know what our ancestors did, or tried to do and also get some ideas and guess other things, they had wanted to invent.

In our country Sri Lanka, the best known museum is the Colombo National Museum. It has many old, ancient things, which belonged to our ancestors, which include clothes, jewellery, thrones, ‘thripitakas’ and ancient tools which were used in agriculture. These things are really important. It is because of these precious items that we have such developed things.
What is most important to know about these things is that how our ancestors got the idea of making such things. By looking at these things, we can realize how they got such an idea.

It is important to go to the museum and see these things, especially because we are still learning
Visiting museums can make us more knowledgeable about our ancestors.
