The shock death of George Michael on Christmas Day rekindled interest in music by him and his former group Wham. Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ which was outside the top 10 in the run up to Christmas, increased in sales and airplay, thus helping the track reach No: 7. ‘Last Christmas’ returned to the UK top 10 after 31 years. It peaked at No: 2 back in 1984, as it was overshadowed by Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know Its Christmas’. Meanwhile on the UK vinyl chart, Michael’s old 1990 hit ‘Freedom’ is the No: 1 record.
Phil Collins announced late last year he was coming out of retirement to do a series of live concerts in England, Germany, Ireland and France between June 4 -30, 2017. As Collins prepares the 65 year old is currently undergoing electroshock therapy in order to correct a problem with his spine, neck and arm. His son Nicholas will be drumming during the tour but Collins is also doing all he can to be able to drum too during the short tour. He has released eight studio albums and 45 singles as a solo artist and sold over 100 million albums worldwide.
One Direction took a break in 2016, but that did not freeze the group’s earning. They have named the highest paid European celebrities for 2016 earning £89.9 million. Others from the music scene making the big bucks are Adele £65.8 m, Rolling Stones £54.3, Calvin Harris £51.5 m, Sir Paul McCartney £46.1 m and U2 £45 m.
Chris Martin took time to spread a little cheer for homeless people in London during the Christmas time. The Coldplay lead turned up at the Crisis Centre in West London on 27th December to entertain people. During his set he sang Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’.
