NCP farmers affected by changing weather patterns
View(s):Over the past year, hundreds of farmers in the north central province suffered huge financial losses caused by changing weather patterns. Farmers say they were initially affected by unusually heavy rains which flooded their fields. The floods were followed by a prolonged drought.
The changing weather patterns over the year they said, had completely upset cultivation patterns with dry weather being experienced during the rainy season and rains experienced during times when rain was not required.
Among areas worst affected were Weheragala and Karuwalagaswewa in the Puttalam district where around 150 acres of crops have been damaged
