AFTER IZED rocking Negombo
A similar taste in music is what brought Geeth Fernando, Kavinda Fernando and Aloka Ruwanal together while schooling. ‘AFTER IZED’ the band was formed after they met Dulaj Jeewantha.
The band’s favoured genre is thrash and heavy metal. Based in Negombo the boys have begun exploring new ways in music these days.
The band’s current lineup consists of Aloka on vocals, Kavinda on Drums, Geeth and Dulaj on Guitars and Sanush Wattage on bass.
The band’s inspiration has been drawn from heavy metal acts such as Metallica and System Of A Down.
“Music is such a pain killer. It helps us to express what we feel about everything. It is the best way to convey our message and feelings”, said Kavinda.
The band is currently working on recording two singles namely ‘Nowhere To Go’ and ‘Anthem & wrath of God’. The songs were performed during their recent gigs. They are also looking forward to composing a Sinhala Rock song in the near future.
In the midst of working on songs the band is keenlye organising “Loud Proud Negombo” in May this year. The event is a metal concert offering musicians in and around the area platform to perform.They will also be playing at a gig in Ja-Ela on the March 4, which is an open air music festival.
Last year’s “Loud Proud Negombo” show introduced the band to a new following of fans and gave them the chance to interact with prominent acts in the metal scene.
The band is heavily invested in the genre of Metal due to their passion for metal music. Their songs have touched subjects such as political corruption to environmental pollution, while hopeing their songs would influence a positive change among fans as they feel these themes speak to current social issues that affect everyone’s lives and music is a great way to express it.
Apart from their commitments to music Aloka an Kavinda are both working in the banking sector, Geeth works in the Graphic Designing field while following a course in Audio Engineering, Dulaj is studying for a Business Management degree and Sanush follows a course of study in Information Technology.
