Hip hop/Pop star Chris Brown has begun the 2017 on a bad note. Brown who has been on the wrong side of the law for ages got involved in an heated exchange of words at a fitness club in New York on 6th January. The 27 year got into an argument with the management of the Life Time Athletic Club and in the end was slapped with a lifetime ban. Brown has had major and minor skirmishes ever since the much publicised altercation with then fiancé Rihanna in 2009.

Fifth Harmony is to release their 3rd album this year. The news comes despite the departure of Camila Cabello last month. The all girl group has been reduced to a quartet and confirmed they will continue that way. Fifth Harmony’s last album ‘7/27’ was released in 2016.

Clean Bandit’s ‘Rockabye’ is really hooked to the top of the UK singles chart. The catchy and easy to digest track has been the UK’s No: 1 for nine straight weeks. While the electronic, classical crossover and dance pop trio take major credit for the success of ‘Rockabye’, the major players on the song is the rapper Sean Paul and singer Anne-Marie Nicholson.

Weeknd’s hit ‘Starboy’ featuring the French duo Daft Punk (famous for never revealing their faces due to the full face helmet), moved up the chart from 8 to No: 5. The song had earlier peaked at No: 2. ‘Starboy’ is co-produced by Weeknd, Cirkut, Doc McKinney and Weeknd. The song has been on the chart as a whole for 15 weeks and is the title track from the Canadian singer’s third album.

Neiked’s hit ‘Sexual’ which has been on the chart for 14 weeks returned to the UK top 10 rising from 11 to No: 6. Neiked is a Swedish producer whose actual name is Victor Radstrom. ‘Sexual’ first charted at No: 83 before peaking at No: 6. The high energy track then retreated but came back to the same position and then dropped out. This week ‘Sexual’ is back to No: 6 as it featured the high tone vocals of British singer Dayo Olatunji.

Last week Ed Sheeran released two singles ‘Castle On The Hill’ and ‘Shape Of You ’. Both tracks have been streamed over 13 million times globally breaking the previous record set by One Direction’s ‘Dag Me Down’ in August 2014. he  are reported to be doing very well in combined sales, so much so both tracks may be heading for the top 10 next week at the No: 1 and runner up position. Meanwhile both songs are expected to enter the UK charts inside the top 10.

The iconic musician David Bowie’s 70th birthday was marked on 8th January. To mark occasion a four track EP titled ‘No Plan’ has been released featuring the title track and other songs ‘Lazarus’, Killing A Little Time’ and ’When I Met You’.

Peter Sarstedt who had a very big hit in 1969 with ‘Where Do Go To (My Lovely)’ has died aged 75 in England. He won an Ivor Novello award for writing the song too.
