Rugby equipment to Matale STC donated

The president of Matale Thomians 2005 A/L batch Nalinda Wijenayake (a former rugger captain of the school) hands over the rugger sports materials to the principal of St. Thomas' K.H.J. Kulasooriya. Others present on the occasion from left - Sandun Liyanage (MIC), Indrawansha Herath (Asst. principal), Srikanth Malalagama (VP 2005 batch), Januka Ekanayaka (Treasurer), Dhanushka Piyadigamage (Sec. 2005 batch) and S.B Madugalle (coach).
In a bid to develop and uplift the standard of Rugby football at St. Thomas’ Matale, (The only Rugger playing school in the district). Matale Thomians 2005 A/L batch donated rugger sports goods (balls, hit shields and tackling bags) worth over   Rs. 50,000/- to their old Alma-mater at a simple ceremony held at college.
Matale Thomians have been playing rugger since 1996. The school participated in all age groups in the provincial and national tournaments and their U/20 team’s performance has been exceptional during the past two years. The team emerged champions to bag the chairman’s trophy at the Milo Schools U/20 Division one knockout rugby tournaments held in 2015 and 2016.
