First full, flight to Mattala
View(s):Mattala airport may not be lonely, after all. On Friday, budget carrier FlyDubai, the only foreign airline to use this southern airport, flew in a full complement of passengers – 108 – for a special occasion.
The group from Dubai was attending a wedding reception at the Shangri-La Hambantota Resort and Spa. According to FlyDubai local agent, Jetwing Travels Director Sunil Peiris, this is the first direct flight to Mattala from any part of the world. “Mattala was also a stopover en route to Colombo. However on Friday the flight from Dubai was only to Mattala and an additional flight from FlyDubai’s 4-times-daily flight to Colombo,” he said.
The airline will similarly operate a special charter next week for the group to return to Dubai.
