‘Burning Birds’ competes for Bergman Film Award

Sanjeewa Pushpakumara’s second feature film ‘Davena Vihagun’ aka ‘Burning Birds’  has been nominated for the prestigious  the Ingmar Bergman Award at  40th Göteborg International Film Festival (Gutenberg) from January 26 to February 6 in Sweden. The film will be played in ‘The Ingamar Bergman Competition.

The Göteborg International Film Festival is the biggest film festival in Scandinavian region. The first Nordic premiere of ‘Davena Vihagun’ (Burning Birds) will be on February 1.

‘Burning Birds’ also has been invited by the 46th International Film Festival Rotterdam to its Bright Future section held from January 25 to February 5. The European premier of the film  will be on January 28 at Rotterdam. Sanjeewa’s debut film Flying Fish also was world premiered in Tiger Competition of 40th International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2011.

The film won the Special Jury Prize (the second prize) of 17th Tokyo FILMeX International Film Festival in Japan.
