“Panas Haye Rekhava” a research publication by Ajith Galappaththi based on the movie directed by Dr. Lester James Peries will be launched at 6.30 pm, today, January 29 at the Regal theatre, Colombo.

The artistic transformation during 1956’s resulting a development of the Sri Lankan film industry and how the cultural and sociopolitical backgrounds affected these reformations are carefully and critically analysed in this research publication. The book is an academic publication that deals with the movie “Rekhava” that revolutionised the
Sri Lankan film industry.

The publication deals with “Rekhava” and its relation with the 1956 era when a major cultural and sociopolitical transformation was taking place. How movies produced before “Rekhava” incorporate the above mentioned theme is also carefully dealt with this publication.

An in-depth analysis of the cultural backdrop and traditional thinking pattern during which ‘Rekhava’ was produced is aptly displayed in the publication.

And how iconic individuals such as K. Gunarathnam, Chiththampalam A. Gardner, Christopher Peiris, Sunil Shantha, Lional Wendit, lvon Peris, Raj Kapoor, S.W.R.D Bandaranaike, Ralph Keen, J. R. Jayawardene  effected the development of Lester James Pens is clearly depicted in “Panas Haye Rekhava’

The book will be presented to the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The author of the publication, Ajith Galappaththi is a graduate of the

University of Kelaniya and a diploma holder in relation to the subject of Mass

Communication from the University of Colombo.

Ajith is also a former member of the Public Performance Board of Sri Lanka and is  currently working as a board member of the foreign television programme survey board under the Ministry of Media and a board member of the tele-drama evaluation panel of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation. He holds the position of the “Head of Sinhala Creative” in Geometry Global of the Ogilvy group.
