Young artist Dua Lipa draws interest with debut singles

A young artist who is drawing a lot of attention today is Dua Lipa, a 21 year old British singer songwriter of Albania origin. Dua who has signed on with Warner Bros. Records, released three singles last year to critical acclaim. One of her songs ‘Hotter Than Hell’ peaked at 21 on the UK singles chart. Dua Lipa is the featured vocalist on Sean Paul’s new song ‘No Lie’ which could be a top 10 hit next week. She has also teamed up with the Dutch DJ Martin Garrix for her next single ‘Scared To Be Lonely’ due out on 27th February. Dua is due to release her debut yet untitled album on 2nd June.

Singer songwriter and actor Nick Cave was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the Australia Day honours list on 26th January. Cave, 59 who is also known for fronting the band the Bad Seeds has collaborated with many artists from the US and the UK. He had a successful duet ‘Where The Wild Roses Grow’ with fellow Australian singer Kylie Minogue in 1995.

The sudden death of George Michael rekindled interest in the artist so much so that over half a million of his records has sold as a member of Wham and solo work. Michael died on 25th December 2016. Meanwhile the funeral of George Michael has not been still held as reports from toxicology tests have not been given to the coroner in Oxfordshire. Thus the coroner has not been able to open an inquest into the singer’s death.

Loalwa Braz the lead vocalist of the Franco Brazilian group Kaoma who took the world by storm with the hit song ‘Lambada’ has died. The 63 year old Brazilian singer’s body was found in a burnt out car in Saquerema near Rio De Janeiro on 19th January. Two men were arrested connection with a robbery that seemed to have gone wrong resulting in Loalwa’s death according reports from Brazil. ‘Lambada’ was a massive global hit in 1989 topping the charts in Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway and the UK.

For a third week Ed Sheeran has dominated the UK singles chart top two positions. ‘Shape Of You’ retained the No: 1 spot with sales of 119,658 while ‘Castle On The Hill’ retained the No: 2 spot with sales of 90,020. This week the video for ‘Shape Of You’ has been released. Meanwhile Sheeran’s next album ‘÷’ will feature a track called ‘Broken Flowers’ – a tribute to his grandmother Anne who passed away last year.

Little Mix have an a good year as their new release ‘Touch’ took a two notch climb on the UK singles chart from 6 to No: 4. The song has climbed up the chart gradually as it has become the all girl group’s 10 UK top hit song. ‘Touch’ is the second track to be released from their current album ‘Glory Days’. Seven weeks ago ‘Touch’ debuted on the chart at No: 23. Little Mix relied on airplay and live performances until the video came out on January 19.
