St. Peter’s cruised through to their fifth outright win of the ongoing Under-19 inter-school season when they recorded a comfortable eight win over St. Benedict’s in their match concluded at Kotahena yesterday.

In fact St. Peter’s had put themselves in a strong position in the post lunch session of play on day two as they had St. Benedict’s in a spot of bother after being made to follow on.

It was Santhush Gunatilleke who made an unbeaten 133 who laid the foundation for St. Peter’s victory on day one which helped make a formidable score of 302 for 6 declared.

The second day’s play saw St. Benedict’s in reply to the Peterites score being bowled out for 167.

St. Benedict’s made to follow on with a deficit of 135 runs was on 29 for 2 just after the lunch break and later a knock of 91 by Chaminda Wijesinghe only delayed an early Peterite victory as they ended with a score of 199 runs leaving St. Peter’s a target of just 65 runs which they achieved with ease.

Prince of Wales coasted to an innings and 16 runs win over Wesley in their match which ended at Moratuwa yesterday. It was the poor batting performance by the Weslyites in the second innings. They let them down and were not unable to erase a deficit of just 104 runs. They were all out for 88 runs.

Nivantha Herath cracked a 148 and Sachintha Senanayake a 71 as the duo defied and denied Ananda an outright win in the match concluded at Ananda Mawatha.

Dharmaraja in reply to Ananda’s score of 335 for 8 declared were bowled out for 123. Made to follow on with a deficit of 212 runs, Dharmaraja ended the day making a total of 267 for 7.

Devapathiraja MMV came with a vengeance after conceding a first inning lead to St. Mary’s Chilaw as they turned the tables to record an outright win by six wickets in the match concluded at Chilaw.

Five wicket hauls by Sasindu Sathsara and skipper Raveen Yasas paved the way for their win as Devapathiraja MMV chasing 157 runs for victory needed just 19 overs to reach the target.

Meanwhile Shashthrananda MMV Dehiwala put up a record score of 729 for 9 declared which most probably would be a school record against Madampe MMV Kuleegoda in the match which began at Madampe yesterday.

Their massive score came on the back of two double tons scored by Ruwan Lakshan who made a quick fire 168 ball knock of 272 that included 25 boundaries and 13 sixes and Isuru Chamara who hit a 237 in 160 balls which had 28 boundaries and nine sixes with the pair being associated in a 210 runs stand for the fourth wicket.
