Dilee D’s techno vibes
Having been invited to play at one of Malaysia’s leading clubs Zouk, Dileepa Aponso has firmly rooted his talents in the Techno genre. Among his other achievements include performing for Paul Thomas Guy Mantuzr on New Year’s Eve 2015 in Colombo with Fantasy Events.
Making music under the name ‘Dilee D’, he has a passion for collecting music and listening to new genres. The 30 year old, grew up in Moratuwa with his parents and two younger sisters. Although music wasn’t in his family, his parents loved to listen to music. When he was 7 he started playing the triangle and was selected to be in the junior school band. When he was 12 years old, he started to learn more classical and western music from school. He started playing the Melodica and started teaching himself more about music. He also continued studying music until he graduated from high school.
Shortly after that, his parents bought him a guitar and he taught himself how to play it. As he grew older, he started a band with practices at his house. He was the lead guitarist in the band. He had seven original songs that they never released. However, the band broke up when members went on to continue their higher studies but Dileepa continued pursuing music.
He has a lot of exciting projects coming out early this year. He hopes to have another EP released as well. Upcoming projects include but aren’t limited to Blind Octaves (Original Mix) [Small Records] Norway / February 2017, Subconscious (Original Mix) [Neverest Records] – Bangkok / March 2017 and The Playground (Original Mix) [Neverest Records] – Bangkok / March 2017.
“I can’t share too many details but 2017 is looking to be a very exciting year” he said adding that he will perform in Singapore, India, Thailand, Hong Kong and China.
His genre of choice currently is melodic techno. However, his music ranges from house to techno. He likes melodic techno for his own music because he loves having more instruments in the music. He also likes the deeper sound that gives character to each track individually.
During the course of his career he moved to Kuala Lampur for a time and feels fortunate now to be able to have opportunities to play all over Asia.
“Music is how I relate to the world. It’s the way I express and release my emotions. I love being able to convey a message through music to my listeners. Music has helped mold me into the person that I am today and helps me strive towards my future goals for who I want to be. Music allows me to express myself in ways that I would never be able to without it. It’s the greatest sense of release but also the greatest sense of accomplishment.” he said.
The main thing he does to keep his momentum is to stay positive. He is constantly networking, meeting new people and connecting with his fans. He does not waste time focusing on things that cannot be tangible in the near future. He completes one task at a time, and keeps his list of goals long enough to keep him inspired to work more.
