Fire destroys 5th floor shop in Pettah

A major fire completely destroyed a shop on the 5th floor of a six-storey building on Prince Street, Pettah yesterday, despite the best efforts of the fire fighters. The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Fire Brigade said 12 Fire & Rescue vehicles assisted by two water bowsers from the Colombo Port and the Sri Lanka Navy, tried to control the blaze. According to the Fire Brigade, the burnt shop belonged to a rexine supplier. The cause of the fire is being investigated while the extent of the damage is still being assessed.
