Vienna: Celebration of Independence Day 2017 with Diplomatic Corps

Ambassador Priyanee Wijesekera and Diplomatic Staff of Sri Lanka’s Mission in Vienna invited Vienna-based diplomats and representatives of the Austrian Foreign Ministry, the Austrian Federal Chamber of Commerce and the Parliament/City Council of Vienna for a reception on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka’s Honorary Consuls to Southern Austria, Serbia and Slovenia also attended to the ceremony.

In her address to the gathering, Ambassador Wijesekera pointed out the importance of social cohesion and development since independence.

 

The event was accompanied by traditional Kandyan and Tamil dances by Pavithra Fernando and Kumuduni Kaindel. Traditional and popular Sri Lankan songs were performed by Ensemble Lasanthi, while Sri Lankan and Austrian finger-food and sweets were served.
