S. Thomas’ began their campaign of the Singer Under-20 Inter-Schools Rugby season with a crushing win over Prince of Wales whom they outclassed by 57-0 in the match played at Longden Place yesterday.
The one sided game saw the Thoras taking a 38-0 lead at the breather and accumulating their points through six goals and two tries.
The Thomian skipper and winger Naveen Henakankanamage had a field day as he went over for three of the nine tries that they scored. Naveen went over for the first two unconverted Thomian tries.
From there on the Thomians went on the rampage and scored at will through tries from prop forward Adeesha Handunpathirana, second row Kalim Atheeq, fly half Hans Walpola and center Chanuka Monarathenna with fly half Dion Dias making the four conversions before the short whistle was blown.
On resumption saw the Thomians taking the field with most of their senior players being rested and giving an opportunity to the freshers and they succeeded to go over for three more tries scored by skipper Naveen, fly half Shevaan Perera and full back Lushantha Dabare with Dion and Aaron Ferdinando converting one each.
