Colombo FC for the second successive time
Colombo FC emerged champions of the Dialog Champions League for the second successive time defeating Renown 3-1 in the final worked off at the Race Course ground Colombo last night.
The winning team received a cash award of Rs.700.000.
According to the Dialog Champions League Super 8 Points Table Renown SC was on top, second was Blue Star SC and third Colombo FC. In the Army vs Blue Star game was played earlier in an unexpected manner Army won by 6 goals to 2 and with it the Points Table turned topsy turvy and the top teams which surfaced were Renown and Colombo FC.
There was a close fight between Colombo FC and Renown and Renown scored the first goal in the 29th minute, which was an easy one, with foreign player Job Michael scoring the goal. Colombo FC also attacked and in the 36th minute David Osagi scored and the first half ended in a one all tie.
In the second half Colombo FC dominated and in the 56th minute K.A.D. Madusanka scored Colombo FC’s second goal. The third goal was netted in the 90+4 minute substitute A.R.A. Shazny booted in the third goal.
M.N.M. Imran of Colombo FC was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper. Colombo FC’s Afis Oleymi was selected as the Most Valuable Player. Other than that Renown SC’s Job Michael and Sri Lanka Army’s M.N.M. Izzadeen were adjudged the Highest Goal scorers having scored 18 goals each.
The tournament was conducted by the Sri Lanka Football Federation with Dialog as the main sponsors. 24 teams took part in the first round which was followed by the Super 8 Round.
