Seekkuge Prasanna and Asela Gunaratne promoted
View(s):Sri Lanka Army-groomed two more world-renowned cricketers, Warrant Officer – II Seekkuge Prasanna and Sergeant Asela Gunaratne who did exceptionally well in the South African tour and the just concluded T-20 Australian Cricket Tournament – 2017 respectively after playing for the National Cricket Team, received laurels and service promotions recently from none other than the chief of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army who invited both of them to his office at the Army Headquarters, Colombo.
Gesturing the formal acceptance of their promotions, both of them saluted the Commander of the Army on entering his office before a warm handshake welcomed them.
Commander of the Army symbolising the appreciation of the Army on the same occasion presented two mementos to each of them and extended the Army’s warm greetings.
During the cordial interactive meet that ensued, the Commander of the Army freely spoke to both of them and inquired into those challenging moments of victory as well as the experiences they gained in international encounters and different pitches, amid thousands of cricket fans.
The occasion was graced by Major General Renaka Udawatta, Deputy Chief of Staff who is also the Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps and Major General Priyantha Jayasundara, Chairman, Army Cricket Committee cum the Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery, Major General P.M.R Bandara, Director General Sports of the Army and a few other senior officers. - SP
