Sharith Amit will play for Qatar as a third row forward

Sharith Amit, a former student of St. Peter’s College and St. Joseph’s College and a Sri Lankan domiciled in Qatar, becomes the youngest player to represent in rugby for his adopted country. A third-row-forward and a centre who is six foot in height is a versatile utility player who becomes the latest addition to the Qatar National Sevens side.

He was part of the successful Lions Rugby Football Club team in 2016 who emerged the Plate category champions at the recently concluded Qatar Rugby Federation 7s tournament. Sharith been plying Rugby since age nine, first at St. Peter’s and then in Qatar representing Doha RFC in respective age groups up to Under-14. He then played competitive Rugby at the age of 15 for Lions RFC where in between played for St. Joseph’s in Sri Lanka in the 2015 and 2016 School Rugby seasons before returning to Qatar.

He is a grandson of former Sri Lanka player and coach Tony Amit and a nephew of Ajith Silva, a former St. Peter’s, Havelocks SC and Sri Lanka player. His brother Shirath Amit was also selected to play for the Qatar National sevens team last year but couldn’t travel with the team due to visa issues.
