Thanksgiving Mass to mark 25 years of Workshop Players
View(s):Famed for bringing some of the best of Broadway musicals and theatre such as ‘Oliver!’, ‘The Sound of Music’, ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’, ‘Evita’, ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, ’Les Misérables’, and, most recently, Arthur Miller’s ‘A View From The Bridge’ to the local stage, the Workshop Players, one of Sri Lanka’s foremost English theatre groups celebrates their 25th anniversary on March 7.
The Workshop Players will hold a Thanksgiving Mass to celebrate the occasion on March 7 at 7.15 p.m., at St. Mary’s Church, Bambalapitiya.
A non-profit amateur theatre organization that aims to promote talent in theatre and peace through the performing arts, the Workshop Players have brought together hundreds of children, adolescents and adults from different theatre and personal backgrounds, who are now part of the WSP family.
The group functions under the philosophy of ‘theatre with a purpose’, and has tried to share their learning with young people from less privileged backgrounds and run workshops for theatre students in Colombo, Wadduwa, Alawwa, Batticaloa, Jaffna and Trincomalee.
