View(s):My school is 50 years
D. S. Senanayake College, started by R. I. T. Alles Sir is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year. My school was started because there were a lot of children at Royal College and they could not handle so many children.
Our school’s first principal was R. I. T. Alles Sir. He served in that position for 13 years. He made our school by cleaning a place called ‘Ant Forest’ with the help of parents and students in Royal College. We initially didn’t have big buildings.
When our school first started there were 167 children and six teachers. But now there are 7,000 children and about 300 teachers. This time for the 50th anniversary our present principal R. M. M. Rathnayake Sir has organized 50 festivals.
I love my school and I hope to be there to celebrate my school’s 100th anniversary.

My new house
My father built a big new house. The house warming was held on January 28, 2017. Our relatives came and enjoyed the house opening. My father built the house in my hometown of Thalawakele. We bought a lot of items for the new house. We had a party there and we got many gifts from our relatives like a gas cooker, rice cooker, non-stick pan sets, little beds, a dining table and small cupboards.
For my holidays I am going to my new home and spending the holidays there. We have many neighbours and I made many friends like Pranav who is studying in Grade Eight this year. He is living in Kotagala. Dhunash and I invite him to our place and I play cricket with them. Every holiday I get after the term tests, I am going to spend my holidays there.

An ideal student
An ideal student is one who is fully conscious of his duties and responsibilities. He paves the way for
the younger generation. The students of today are the leaders of tomorrow.
A nation can progress if the students have high ideals before them. A student who scores high marks is not necessarily an ideal student. He may set a new record in the school, but prove to be a total failure in his real life. An ideal student should be able to face the trials and tribulations of life.
An ideal student should live in accordance with the rules of conduct and discipline. This is the time of life when the foundation of character is laid. It has been aptly said that, ‘If wealth is lost, nothing is lost; if health is lost something is lost; but if character is lost, everything is lost’.
A student without any sense of discipline is like a ship without a rudder; it sails adrift and never leaves the harbour.
An ideal student must follow the rules at school and obey the teachers. He should select his friends intelligently and wisely and be fully conscious to ensure that no evil tempts him. He should remember that he owes a lot to his parents and must not forget to look after them when he enters his adult life. He should share the worries and problems of his family members. He should be a servant of humanity. Our country needs students who can help the nation achieve prosperity and all round development.

Aim of my life is to become a doctor
Everybody has an aim in life. Aim or ambition gives us a sense of direction in life. My aim is to become a doctor. A doctor lives a noble life. A doctor is someone who can help someone else in need. He renders a valuable service to the suffering humanity. He is the symbol of hope and joy. I know that becoming a doctor is not a very easy task. It is a long journey of study to become a good doctor. But I have confidence in myself to accomplish the target.
When I become a doctor, I will treat the poor patients without charging fees. I will also distribute free medicines to the poor people. I will educate people for maintaining hygiene and cleanliness.
I wish my sweet dream would be fulfilled and I hope I can serve my nation by becoming an ideal doctor.

My new toy
I love my new toy. My new toy is a doll. It is pink colour, it has golden hair and blue eyes. Her brand is Gerald. She is made in Japan as a new toy. It’s a very cute doll. It can sing and dance. When she is singing she is dancing going round and round. Then I also dance with her. I can take it anywhere and sing and play with her.
I think my doll is a very expensive doll in the world market. I can’t appraise my doll, it was bought by my father when he goes abroad to Japan and comes back to Sri Lanka.

My encounter with a dolphin
My cousins and I visited the Georgia Aquarium in USA, where we saw all sorts of fish and even saw a few seals swimming around in their tank. Next, we saw a tank full of ferocious sharks. One of them shot me a dirty look and another glared at me with hungry eyes. Afterwards, we decided to see a dolphin show.
As we entered the stadium, we ran into one of the dolphin trainers. She invited us to join the show. Later, they showed me around backstage. They told me to watch the show from my seat until they called me up onstage. After a while the show began. I was mesmerized by the stunts the trainers and their dolphins performed. Right after that, they called me up on stage where I met my dolphin, Lunar.
Now, I was about to train Lunar. I trained the dolphin to dance, handshake, do a back flip and say hi. Once I was about to make it jump, when it turned round and soaked me head to toe with water. Later on, the show ended and I gave Lunar a hug and left the stadium hoping for another opportunity in the future.

A great inventor
The great inventor I admire is John Logie Baird. He invented the television. It was done in 1925. He made the first television in London.
He made it in great difficulty. He had not enough money to build it. The first picture was blurring letters. He had to sell his own business.
He invented the colour television too. He started the television industry.
