Sugar prices rise
View(s):The price of sugar in the retail market has increased, trade sources said.
Sources from Pettah said there has been an increase in the wholesale market price of sugar, which is being sold at Rs 105 per kg. Hence, the retail price too has increased.
They claimed that, the increase of prices in the international markets was the cause.
A senior officer at the Consumer Affairs Authority said there is no shortage of sugar in the country, but only an increase in its price in the retail market.
He said that, although the existing price of sugar is high, as the concerned authority, they will compare prices with world markets and take steps to create a stable price for sugar in the wholesale and retail markets.
