Udage now on top of the bowling while Pathum holds on
View(s):Isipathana College allrounder Pathum Nissanka retains his top position in batting rankings while left-arm spinner from St. Mary’s College Kegalle, Lasith Udage makes his way to the top in bowling ranks in the fifth round of the Sunday Times-Batsman.com Schoolboy Cricketer Rankings.
Nissanka retained the top position in batting a fortnight ago and continues to dominate the batsman’s list after taking his tally to 923 runs in nine games. His average floats above the rest at an impressive 71.00 as Nipun Dhananjaya of St. Joseph Vaz College remains at second position as the previous count.
One of the top gainers in this count is Lasith Croospulle of Maris Stella College Negombo, who slid down from fourth to eighth two weeks ago. But he stream-roles ahead to claim the third slot by this week. The gap between Nipun and Lasith is a mere four runs.
Udara Ravindu of Gurukula Vidyalaya Kelaniya loses a slot as Royal College skipper Helitha Vithanage shoots to the Top 10 for the first time at fifth position. Another new entrant to the Top 10 is Gajitha Kotuwegoda of St. Mary’s Kegalle, who settles in at sixth position. So is Malindu Maduranga of Mahanama College. He joins in as the seventh in the list.Royal College’s Kavindu Chathuranga is another new face who reaches the Top 10 and comes in at the eighth position while Madushan Ranatunga of St. Joseph Vaz College loses four slots to be pushed down to ninth. Hiruna Sigera of President’s College re-emerges at tenth position while Sasiri Adhikari of Bandaranayake College Gampaha, Deshan Gunasinghe of Dharmaraja College, Sajith Sameera, the skipper of Zahira College, Tharusha Fernando of St. Sebastian’s College and Charana Nanayakkara of Thurstan College are those who lose their slots from the Top 10 batsman’s list.
Lasith Udage of St. Mary’s Kegalle made his way to the Top 10 among bowlers in the last count at tenth but he impressively shoots to the top to claim the leader’s position by the fifth count. He dislodges Nipun Dhananjaya of St. Joseph Vaz, who is a fine allrounder in the making. He loses his stronghold among bowlers and is pushed down to second. The right-arm off-spinner also claims the second position among batsmen.
As a result of the sudden shakeup in the top position left-arm spinner Hareen Buddhila Weerasinghe of St. Aloysius College Galle also moves down by a slot to third position.
Ameen Miflal, the St. Peter’s College left-arm spinner, who led the bowler’s list for two consecutive counts, is also pushed down to fourth position.
Thurstan College left-arm spinner Naveen Gunawardene was pushed down to eighth last count but he impressively makes a comeback to the top five. Sajith Sameera, the right-arm off-spinner from Zahira College remains at sixth while Dileepa Jayalath, the right-arm leg-spinner from Ananda College moves further down to seventh after being the fifth in the list last count. Dyan Vimukthi, the left-arm spinner from Lumbini College can be considered a top loser. He was fourth last count but lost four positions and moves down to eighth this count. Chathura Obeysekara, the right-arm off-spinner from St. Peter’s College, also loses two places and is currently at ninth while Madhawa Ushetti from Maris Stella College makes his way in to the list at tenth forcing Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan, the left-arm spinner from Trinity College, out of the Top 10.
The ranking is an initiative of the Sunday Times in collaboration with Batsman.com to publish the Top 10 ranked players in batting and bowling in the ongoing Singer Inter-School Under-19 Division I Cricket Tournament. The rankings, totally based on statistics released by the Sri Lanka School Cricket Association (SLSCA) to its official stats provider Batsman.com, will be published in the Sunday Times every fortnight. Please note that matches counted in the lists are eight tournament matches of the Singer Inter-School Under-19 Division I Cricket Tournament and five traditional or friendly matches nominated by respective schools to the SLSCA.
