View(s):My favourite cartoon
Scooby Doo is a wonderful and humorous cartoon. It’s main character, Scooby, is my favourite.
His actions and his voice impress me a lot. He’s a very funny character and that is why I like him so much.
Sirasa TV telecasts this daily at 5 p.m.
I see something special in this cartoon, dubbed in Sinhala because the Sinhala dubbing is excellent. It matches with the action. Thank you very much Sirasa TV for giving us a great cartoon.
Scooby Doo has many friends. They are, Shaggy, his best companion, Daphne, Wilma, Freddy and Scrappy Doo. His friends are always trying to catch ghosts and solve mysteries. Scooby’s and Shaggy’s hobby is eating. Their favourite food is Scooby Snacks. Whenever Scooby Doo’s group needs to solve a mystery, Scooby dislikes it and Daphne always gives him one or two biscuits. Then he agrees to go along with them.
Scooby Doo has already celebrated its 100th anniversary. So I think Scooby Doo will last forever. I love Scooby Doo.

Trees
Trees are beautiful and useful gifts of nature. They are tall and have a hard stem. They also have leaves.
Trees give us flowers, fruits, timber, bamboo etc. We make furniture such as beds, cupboards, chairs, doors and windows using wood. Trees are part and parcel of earthy life. All life directly or indirectly owes its existence to them. Trees can live for many years. The oldest tree is about 5,000 years old. Some parts of a tree are the roots, truck, branches, twigs and leaves. A single tree has many roots. The leaves of a tree are mostly green but it can come in many colours, shapes and sizes.
Without trees and other plants, humans and animals can’t live. Therefore, we need to plant more trees to protect our own lives.

Why I like Biology
Biology is the study of living things. It is a part of Science. It is a subject which I really enjoy learning. It includes the human body, parts of a plant, adaptations of animals and plants and many other things. Biology is my favourite subject and I am longing for our Biology period to start daily in school.
One reason why I love Biology is because of our teacher. She is the most kind and interesting teacher. She makes the lesson interesting and takes us to another world. She is very gentle and funny at times too. Because of her, every child does very well in Biology. I usually score excellent marks and sometimes I get the highest in our whole grade. And all this is because of my teacher.
I am a person who loves nature and animals. So, I like learning about them too. I like to learn about animals, plants, and about their adaptations and a lot more.
I’m also very interested in the human body. I think it is a great creation.
I love to learn about it and I enjoy teaching it too.
Our Biology book too is very good and contains many pictures. I sometimes turn the pages and have a look at the pictures which I find interesting.
I would like to continue learning Biology in the future and become a Biology teacher!

My first air trip
It was 3 a.m. We were at Katunayake International Airport for our American journey. Our first flight, Colombo to Qatar from Qatar Airways was at 3.30 a.m. We went to the duty free shops and bought some chocolates and snacks. We went to the inner area until the flight arrived. Brother and I played games and watched movie trailers. The flight came. The airhostess gave us a warm welcome. This was my first air trip.
I sat near my grandfather and switched on the tablet and watched ‘Pan’ and ‘Zootopia.’ The airhostess gave us a delicious meal. We landed at Qatar Airport. On our next flight I sat near my mother. I listened to some pop songs. For lunch I ordered mutton rice, mango juice and a delicious dessert.
While enjoying the music I felt sleepy and slept for nearly eight hours. When I woke up they gave us snacks. I ate lots of chips and put Twix bars in my bag. When I looked through the window I saw colourful lights. I was too excited, we were near to landing.
When we were in Miami Airport, I jumped and shouted. When the domestic flight came we went in and sat near my father. After a while we slept a lot. After nearing to landing I felt faintish. My father gave me some peppermints and I was alright.
We were in Denver International Airport, that means I was in America! The airport seems endless. It was 2 a.m., in America. We heard some shouting “Ammi, Thathi” and it was our aunt and uncle. We took our bags and finally were in my aunt’s home which is in Colorado.

The Magic Land
So far behind plants and trees,
Through the cold, slight breeze,
Is a land filled with sweets,
Lollipops, toffees and some other treats,
More sweets day by day,
Makes us happy as I say,
Early morning fairies come,
From all the sweets they take some.
A chocolate stream passes through,
There are singing trees, and that’s true.
Little children come daily,
And run through happy and freely.

The Jak tree
The Jak tree is a versatile tree. It grows in most parts of Sri Lanka. Almost every part of the Jak tree is used by people. The Jak fruit at every stage is eaten by man. Most trees bear fruit during the Yala season, which is from May to September. It’s used as a substitute for rice.
We make many kinds of eatables using Jak fruit. These are known by different names such as ‘Polos Ambula’, ‘Polos Malluma’ and ‘Kiri Kos’. The Jak tree is also called ‘Bath Gasa,’ or ‘Kap Ruka.’ It is very tasty. Waraka is used to treat Diabetic patients. The leaves are dried, powdered and made into a coffee like drink to be given to diabetic patients.
It helps to keep the earth moist. The leaves give out a big amount of oxygen into the air and Jak roots are used by Buddhist monks to dye robes in the yellow colour.
We can say that Jak is a gift of nature.
